MGPS Risk Assessment
By working continuously (annually) on a thorough risk assessment in accordance with EN/ISO7396-01 and EN/ISO14971, one can achieve a deeper understanding of the Medical Gas Pipe System (MGPS) and thus better forecast costs for renovations and expansions. Additionally, the risk of accidental breakdowns in the system is minimized, which reduces the risk of Unintended Events (UTH). Risk assessment can benefit from incorporating cost estimates of the identified risks, enabling it to act as an estimate budget for improvement initiatives.
In summary, the risk assessment enhances patient safety and provides assurance for both the Technical and Financial Departments within individual hospitals. This assessment is a dynamic document that is updated periodically (at least once a year).
Brisson Consult conducted a risk assessment of the entire Medical Gas Pipe System (MGPS) at the National Hospital in Tórshavn back in August and September 2023. This assessment highlighted where future improvement efforts would be most meaningful. Based on the risk assessment, a rough action plan was developed. All low-hanging fruits were harvested, and some of the major items were planned and have recently been completed in September 2024. Now, the risk assessment needs to be reviewed and prioritized again – a year goes by quickly.
